Arcadian Chocolates – where history, flavour, and craftsmanship meet

Arcadian Chocolates is a small artisan chocolate business based in Scotland, where every creation is shaped by care, character, and a love of story. For us, chocolate is more than a treat – it is culture, comfort, and connection.

The name Arcadian comes from ancient Greece and speaks of an idyllic, harmonious place rooted in nature, beauty, and creativity. It captures our vision for chocolate: something that brings joy, serenity, and a touch of elegance to everyday life.

Arcadian Chocolates was founded by Denise McGrail, a medical anthropologist fascinated by the anthropology of food. Denise trained under Ruth Hinks, UK World Chocolate Master, at her renowned school in Peebles, and later refined her craft with Andrew Thwaite at The Yorkshire Academy of Chocolate and Patisserie. This blend of academic insight and hands-on skill lies at the heart of every chocolate we make.

But Arcadian Chocolates is also born of story and imagination. Ever since watching the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice in 1995, Denise has been captivated by the Regency world of Jane Austen – its wit, refinement, and elegance. And yes, she even found her very own Mr Darcy. Bringing this passion into her chocolate-making has been a dream come true. With the upcoming 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, Arcadian Chocolates is preparing a special collection inspired by her era, a celebration of taste, beauty, and timeless charm.
